The Hunger Games
“From the Treaty of Treason:
In penance for their uprising , each district shall offer up a male and female between the ages of 12 and 18 at a public ‘Reaping’. These Tributes shall be delivered to the custody of the Capitol. And the transferred to a public arena where they will Fight to the Death until a lone victor remains. Henceforth and forevermore this pageant shall be known as the Hunger Games” -The Hunger Games
A young woman and young man, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, are chosen from District 12 to be in the annual Hunger Games and we follow them through their fight (on national television) for survival.Based on the young adult novel (the first book of three) by Suzanne Collins, this movie is filled with excitement from killings, romance, hope and survival. I believe that if you don’t read the books and watch the movie first it will be a real good adventure for ya. I guarantee.I am a fan of the book … unfortunately. There were many important parts of the book that were cut off from the movie and some were my favorite parts of the book (ahem, especially the romance parts). A little example: In the movie Katniss tuned the four notes for the mocking jays to sing but in the book I believe it was Rue (?). I think it should have been Rues because she said that music was something she loved from her district but of course they didn’t even mention that in the movie. Also, as a hopeless romantic, where the fuck did that whole romance skit in the cave with Peeta and Katniss go?! Anyways, I enjoyed the movie, I just wish they had kept to the damn book (of course I expected it, movies never stick to the book, I’m just ranting).
The cinematography was beautiful and I did not expect the music to be uummm not so Hollywood ‘actiony’ as I thought it was going to be. It was so soft and yet when it came to the dramatic violent parts the music gave you the chills. Big ups to James Newton Howard! (Wonder if it would have been much darker if Danny Elfman ended up doing it.) I will say it felt a bit rushed, especially the ending (man did I hate the ending), it was like throughout the movie you can feel the emotions of anger and sadness coming through you and you’re loving it but then it gets to the end and you’re confused. That’s how I felt anyways.
The actors were superb, I don’t think I could have thought of anyone else to play any of these characters (maybe Haymitch and President Snow but Woody H. and Donald S. were perfect). Josh Hutcherson was as charming as his character, Peeta, and Elizabeth Banks was so irritating which was perfect for Effie! But I have to say the award (o_o) goes to Jennifer Lawrence who perfectly played Katniss Everdeen, the girl on fire; she was fierce and strong, she had you rooting for her every step of the way, she was everything! Yes, I have a girl crush on her, and I’m happy to say that I saw her in Winter’s Bone and rooted for her in the Oscars kekeke.
It was definitely an adventure but I was a little disappointed but only because I read the damn book. See, this is why I don’t like to read books before the movies, I am a movie person! I don’t like not liking awesome movies! Especially when Jennifer Lawrence is in it -_- this is turning into a fangirl rant. The end.
